About Tax Defense Network
Tax Defense Network is a tax resolution company headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, founded in 2007. With nearly two decades of operations and 20,000+ resolved cases, they are one of the more established budget-oriented tax relief firms. Their fee structure ($2,500-$6,000 for most cases) runs below the industry average, making professional tax help accessible to a wider range of consumers. The lower fees reflect a streamlined service model. Tax Defense Network handles straightforward cases efficiently — installment agreements, penalty abatement, basic OIC submissions, and unfiled return preparation. They do not offer the deep case analysis of Larson, the financial planning of Precision, or the attorney-led legal representation of Fortress. What they do, they do at a lower cost. The company holds a BBB A rating and a $5,000 minimum tax debt threshold — one of the lowest in the industry. For consumers with $5,000-$20,000 in IRS debt who need professional help but cannot justify $6,000-$9,000 in fees, Tax Defense Network fills the gap.
Key Features
Lower Fee Structure

$5,000 minimum makes them accessible to consumers with smaller IRS balances.
Nearly Two Decades in Business
Operating since 2007 with 20,000+ cases gives them institutional IRS knowledge that newer budget firms lack.

Notable Case Studies
First-Time Penalty Abatement on W-2 Underpayment
Client owed $12,000 to the IRS after an incorrect W-4 led to significant underwithholding. Penalties and interest added $4,800 to the original $7,200 tax liability. Client had a perfect compliance history for the prior 5 years.
Two Years of Unfiled Returns for Gig Worker
Rideshare/delivery driver had not filed 2021 or 2022 returns. IRS substitute returns showed $18,000 in liability. Actual liability was lower because mileage deductions and vehicle expenses were not accounted for.

affordable and effective
Paid $2,900 total. Got $3,600 in penalties removed and set up a payment plan. Other companies quoted $5,000-$7,000 for the same thing. Why pay more for a simple case?
no frills but works
No frills. No fancy reports. They just got me on a payment plan and removed some penalties. Exactly what I needed at a fair price.
penalty abatement worked great
First time abatement removed $4,200 in penalties. I did not even know that program existed. That is the value of hiring a tax relief company — they know which programs you qualify for.
unfiled returns done right
They prepared 2 years of returns and found deductions the IRS missed. Cut my liability almost in half. $3,400 well spent.

callback took 3 days
Left a voicemail on Tuesday. Got a callback Friday. That is too long when the IRS is sending you threatening letters. The work was fine but the communication pace made me anxious.
basic service
You get what you pay for. Lower fees, basic service. No post-resolution planning, no financial advice beyond the immediate tax issue. Fine for a one-time problem. Not ideal if you need ongoing guidance.
paid for a payment plan I could have done free
Paid $2,800 to set up an installment agreement. THEN I found out the IRS has an online tool where you can set up your own for a $31 fee if you owe under $50k. I owed $14k. Could have done it myself for $31 instead of $2,800. Nobody at TDN mentioned this option. Do your research before paying anyone.

Important Tax Relief Disclaimers
- Tax relief companies cannot guarantee specific outcomes with the IRS or state tax agencies. Results depend on your individual tax situation, compliance history, and the applicable tax laws.
- Tax relief services typically require upfront fees or retainer payments. These fees are separate from any taxes, penalties, or interest you owe to the IRS or state agencies.
- The IRS offers its own programs (installment agreements, offers in compromise, currently not collectible status) that you can apply for without hiring a tax relief company. The IRS does not charge application fees for most programs.
- An offer in compromise (OIC) is accepted by the IRS in approximately 30-40% of submissions. Tax relief companies that guarantee OIC acceptance are making claims they cannot support.
- Tax relief fees typically range from $3,000 to $10,000+ depending on the complexity of your case. Some companies charge investigation fees ($500-$2,000) before beginning resolution work.
- You have the right to represent yourself before the IRS. If you prefer professional representation, enrolled agents, CPAs, and tax attorneys are all authorized to represent taxpayers.
- Zogby does not provide tax relief services. We are an independent comparison service. We do not negotiate with the IRS or state tax agencies on your behalf.
