With Crisis Comes Opportunity

Obama, FDR and ratings of presidential greatness.

The challenges facing Barack Obama are daunting on multiple fronts. If he succeeds as president, considering the scope of problems and the public mood, it gives him the opportunity to achieve greater popularity and even a prominent place in history.

On the one hand, expectations for him are very high. His inspiring speeches and the idealistic movement that propelled his campaign set a high bar for his actions, at least among opinion makers and the Republican opposition.
