Obama Support Is Still Strong--For Now
Despite an unpopular bank rescue strategy, voters are giving him time.
President Barack Obama is walking a political tightrope. He has inherited the worst economic situation since 1929. The centerpiece of his program to revive U.S. banking and get capital flowing again is approved by only 6% of adults. Yet he is maintaining public trust.
People don't blame him for the economy, and increasing numbers believe that the nation is heading in the right direction. Adults who say his actions on the economy have been "just about right" outnumber those who think he is "too bold and trying to force too much change too quickly," 38% to 32%.
