A Secession Question
We recently included several winning Top Question Tuesday survey questions on a recent interactive survey. Stay tuned to the blog as we’ll be reporting the results of these questions here over the next several weeks!
One question included on this survey asked whether the respondent agreed or disagreed that any state or region had a right to peaceably secede and become an independent republic. Overall, 35% of those surveyed agreed that a state or region had a right to peaceably secede, while 52% disagreed, and 13% were not sure. Groups that were more likely to agree were conservatives (49%), Protestants (40%), those between 18 and 29 (45%), McCain voters (46%), and Republicans (43%).
Are there any circumstances where you would support a state or region “peacably” seceding? Do you believe it is possible that a secession attempt could be truly peaceable?

No, the question wasn’t settled. What was settled neocon, was the fact that the Bill of Rights can be ran over rough shod by the federal government. You republicants along with your democrap cohorts are ruining this country and destroying the very ideals it was founded on. Get your head out of your posterior and open your eyes, no state signed onto a suicide pact, which is where our current political leadership is taking us. Secession is the only way to preserve the various ideals in which we are supposed to all so strongly believe. You can have socialism, it isn’t part of my way.
>Are there any circumstances where you would support a state or region “peacably” seceding?
Yes. Right now we have a govt that refuses to protect our borders and people, while it continually wages war against third world peoples. On top of that we have elected a communist pretender, who is spending millions to hide his identity and is doing his best to destroy the constitution.
>Do you believe it is possible that a secession attempt could be truly peaceable?
No. It would be similar to Civ War I, in that the old USA would either attack, or they would force the separatists to fight to break out of their bully boy economic blockades.
@Concerned Southron Such a cogent and persuasive argument. Name calling always helps make a point.
