Direct answer
Two to four weeks to lower or pause daily debits, and three to twelve months to settle every position, based on verified owner timelines Zogby collected in 2026. Single advances settle fastest. Stacks of three or more, or positions already in litigation, run toward the longer end.
The first month
A competent firm reviews every contract in the first week, then either invokes the reconciliation clause to lower payments or negotiates a pause while talks proceed. Owners in our set reported debits lowered or stopped in about two to three weeks with the best firms and six to eight weeks with slower ones. This is the number to ask about before you enroll.
Settling each position
Each funder is negotiated separately. Funders that have not yet sued typically settle within one to three months once you can show a lump sum or a short payment plan. Funders that have filed suit or hold a judgment take longer, three to six months, because the settlement must also resolve the judgment and any restraining notices.
Settlements in letters owners shared with us landed between 35% and 70% of the balance. Fees at reputable firms are charged only as each settlement closes.
What makes it slower
Stopping payments with no plan, which triggers default and COJ filings. Missing documents. A firm that charges monthly plan fees and therefore has no reason to hurry. And, most often, waiting until accounts are already frozen before asking for help.
Key takeaway
Relief from the debits should come in weeks. Full resolution takes months. If a firm promises everything in thirty days, ask them to put it in writing.
