Victor Hugo Vineyards and Winery is among Paso Robles’ most exciting and innovative properties. Victor Hugo Roberts is the owner and winemaker of the small, family operated vineyard and winery. The family legend has it that Victor was named after a great uncle and a great grandfather. His great grandfather Anglicized the family name from the French name Robert to Roberts. There was apparently no reference to any literary connection. Victor Hugo Opulence is intense, complex, and rich. Aromatics rising from the multi-varietal blend include notes of black cherries, dark chocolate, and violet intertwine with spicy oak. Flavors are profound and rich with layers of pleasantly assertive tannins, rich fruit and toasty oak. The finish is rich with piquant acidity, which beckons to excellent aging potential. This wine is a blend of 30% merlot, 27% petit verdot, 25% cab franc, 14% malbec and 4% cabernet sauvignon.
