Rodney Strong saw back in the late 1960s that Sonoma County鈥檚 Alexander Valley was an amazing area for heat loving Cabernet Sauvignon. He planted the estate鈥檚 first Cabernet vineyard in 1971. He called the vineyard Alexander鈥檚 Crown. It is situated on a small hill in Jimtown, and the reputation for fine Sonoma County cabernet endures today. Today they have three exceptional Cabernet vineyards in the Rodney Strong estate. They range from Jimtown, to Geyserville, and all the way north to Cloverdale. The vines are planted in the well-drained alluvial, volcanic, and uplifted shale/sandstone soils that make Sonoma County the perfect place for this noble grape. Rodney Strong Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is rich, showing dark cherry, plum and baking spices. The delicious fruit character is accompanied by black pepper notes, crushed violet and cassis. On the palate, the wine has medium tannins, lingering spicy oak flavors with a velvety lush finish.
