Zogby Interactive: Obama Job Approval-Disapproval Holds Steady at 49% - 50%

Majority of Independents Still Dispprove

UTICA, New York - Likely voters remain evenly split on whether they approve or disapprove of President Barack Obama's job performance.

The results of a Zogby Interactive survey taken from Sept. 15-17 found that 49% approve of Obama's job performance, and 50% disapprove. A similar poll conducted on Sept. 10-14 found the same results.

In both surveys, majorities of Independents registered disapproval. The most recent result for Independents was 57% disapprove and 43% approve, which was three points less in approval from Sept. 10-14. Among Democrats, 84% approved; and for Republicans, 14% approved.

The table below shows the trend for Obama's approval based on Zogby Interactive polls since July 24, 2009.

Other findings of the Sept. 15-17 poll included:

Using a four-point scale of excellent, good, fair and poor for Obama's job performance, the results were: excellent 21%, good 23%, fair 13%, poor 43% and not sure .1%.
On a personal level, 51% view Obama favorably and 48% unfavorably, which is the same rating Obama received on the Zogby Interactive poll conducted August 28 - 31.
41% say the U.S. is headed in the right direction and 51% say wrong direction.

A random sampling of Zogby International's online panel, which is representative of the adult population of the US, was invited to participate in this poll. The survey sample was 1,978, and has a margin of error of +/-2.2%.
