Zogby Poll: 58% Support President Obama's Push for Climate Change Action
Survey shows 73% of moderate voters agree with Obama's call for legislation to address climate change
UTICA, New York Nearly three in five likely voters 58% support President Barack Obamas push for action on climate change outlined in his address to Congress, with 42% who strongly agree with the presidents call for legislation that would place a market-based cap on carbon pollution and increase the nations renewable energy production, a new Zogby Interactive poll shows. The survey presented respondents with a quote from Obamas Feb. 24th speech where he stated: To truly transform our economy, protect our security, and save our planet from the ravages of climate change, we need to ultimately make clean, renewable energy the profitable kind of energy. So I ask this Congress to send me legislation that places a market-based cap on carbon pollution and drives the production of more renewable energy in America. While the vast majority of Democrats (91%) and liberal voters (96%) express support for Obamas push for climate change legislation, 73% of moderates and 55% of self-described political independents also agree with Obamas call for legislative action on climate change. The Zogby Interactive survey of 3,365 likely voters nationwide was conducted March 2-5, 2009, and carries a margin of error of +/- 1.7 percentage points. The survey was commissioned by the National Wildlife Federation. Support for Obamas call for legislation on climate change receives strong support among the youngest voters 68% of those age 18-24 support an increased focus on renewable energy and a cap on carbon pollution but more than half of voters of all ages also said they agree with the ideas outlined in Obamas speech. Most African American voters (88%) and Hispanic voters (61%) also agree with the presidents call for climate change legislation.
