Opposing views on President’s Job Performance
As President Barack Obama works to put the focus on healthcare reform, Americans are split about the job he has done in his first months in office, a new Zogby Interactive telephone/online hybrid survey shows. Half of Americans give Obama’s job performance a positive rating, with 26% rating his job as “excellent” and 24% rating it as “good.” But nearly as many are dissatisfied with his actions thus far in office and give Obama a negative job performance rating. Fourteen percent say he is doing a “fair” job as president and 35% say he is doing a “poor” job. (Zogby uses a four-point scale of excellent, good, fair and poor, and aggregates excellent and good to determine positive ratings.)
This most recent hybrid poll shows little change from an exclusively online poll conducted in late May and early June which showed Obama’s positive job performance numbers at 51%, down a point from mid-April. That poll showed 14% gave Obama a rating of fair and 36% poor. When asked specifically if overall, they approve or disapprove of Obama’s job as president, 51% of likely voters approve while 42% disapprove. Another 7% are not sure.
“No matter which you cut it – four-way scale or two-way scale – Obama’s approval numbers have taken a bit of a hit,” says Zogby International President and CEO John Zogby. “Looking at it closely this should not be surprising with lots of crises all requiring attention and solutions all at once and an opposition ready to stir up criticism and fear about the unknown – and there is plenty that is unknown. Polling showing that two in five Americans identify themselves as conservative. And expectations are high to do something, though there is little agreement on how to do it and a congressional system that is on automatic hyper-partisan pilot.”
The Zogby International hybrid telephone/online survey of 3,728 likely voters nationwide was conducted from June 12-18, 2009, and includes 3,133 interviews completed interactively and 595 interviews conducted by telephone. The margin of error is +/- 1.6 percentage points.
Republicans (69%), McCain voters (70%), and conservatives (75%) are most likely to give Obama a “poor” rating in this latest survey, while about half of Democrats (49%), Obama voters (47%), and liberals (51%) believe the President has done an “excellent” job so far.
“Frankly, it is a wonder that any President is doing as well. His personal favorability continues to prop him up,” Zogby says.
How would you rate Obama’s performance as President so far and has he met your earlier expectations (positive or negative)? What do you think has been his greatest accomplishment – or disappointment – since taking office?

I’m disappointed, but not surprised, by his performance. However, he has exceeded my expectations at just how poorly he would do. His greatest accomplishment has been making America look weak and his greatest disappointment has been his inability to admit he’s wrong on so many issues.
I think that as he has shown his true colors as a free-spending and soon to be heavy-taxing liberal, his popularity has waned and will likely continue to plummet when more and more people realize that his “moderate” rhetoric and campaign positions are not indicative of how he intended to govern.
The most telling numbers, I think, are that only 47% of Obama voters think he’s done an excellent job so far. After one of the longest and dare I say, loving-est, media honeymoons in modern history (and only 5 months in office), to have less than half of your voters saying you did an excellent job has to be troubling for Obama. Looks like buyer’s remorse is setting in.
If unemployment continues to go up or stays at current levels, Mr Obama can look forward to becoming irrelevant when the House swings back to the right in 2010 and an early retirement for himself in 2013.
I will not vote for Mr. Obama Because of his unwavering support of ALL Bush policies. Beside he’s chained by unknown persons/forces read on…

Pool report #5
November 10, 2008
Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
President Bush escorted President-elect Obama out of the Oval Office and walked him to down to the motorcade waiting on the south driveway.
(Josh Bolten separately escorted John Podesta to a car much further back in the motorcade.)
As they walked down the path, the president could be seen pointing things out to his soon-to-be successor.
They did not linger at the car and the motorcade took off at 3:45 p.m.
Michelle Obama left before her husband for her own separate schedule in Washington for the remainder of the day and will be traveling separately back to Chicago later tonight.
We’re not being told what she will be doing in her extra time here, so we leave it to your imagination and reportorial instincts.
The motorcade encountered crowds of people gathered outside the White House as it made its way off campus and headed toward Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
After arriving, President-elect Obama went into a previously unannounced “private” meeting at the airport’s Fire Station 301.
We’re not being told who it’s with but it will last about an hour. Podesta was not in the meeting, or at least did not stay around in the meeting,
because he was spotted walking the other direction down the tarmac a few minutes after we arrived.
As you can all see this occurred a few days after the Election.
The love for family out weights the duty to the country.
@Kevin
Kevin, you have expressed my sentiments to a tee. To be perfectly blunt, this President and his Administration are scaring me to death. I’m dumbstruck daily at how frequently this President is in America’s face, announcing one new policy after another. But what scares me the most is the lightning speed with which all these new policies are implemented. It’s a done deal before you even have time to assimilate the idea. I think America’s only hope is to elect Republicans in the House and Senate in 2010 for the main purpose of stopping this runaway train. I sincerely fear for our future and the future of our children and grandchildren.
President Obama is a “salesman”; his is not a real President. How could anyone – other than a person that will never have to pay for anything the rest of their lives – sell a “Cap and Trade” policy for the energy of the United States. We have billions of barrels of oil, billions of tons of coal and billions of cubic feet of natural gas that we can develop and use as our chief sources of energy while we develop the “green” energy sources.
The current administration is comprised of people that have never seen a coal mine, a producing oil or gas well and now they think they are experts on energy. Now they are selling the Congress on a policy that will be the largest tax increase in our history – clothed in the sheep’s wool.
I am 62 and I am afraid of what our country will become before we can vote these idiots out of office.
“God save America”
Since taking office el presidente hussein osama has printed 8 Trillion dollars out of thin air. He took over GM, fired the CEO, then it went into bankruptcy.
He spent 1/2 million on that 6 hr. trip to NY w/his wife.
He is pushing this cap and trade thing that is going to cost us, we, the people, at least $1000/yr, then it goes up.
You want the feds to handle your healthcare? Look at social security, medicare, medicade, look at the VA. Everything los federales touch goes to crap. You want these people to say when you can go to the doctor?
I pray for a miracle. Every day. Rid us of these left wing socialists, Lord, please rid us of these libeals.
@Karel He is scaring many Americans and did so long before he was elected. To no surprise now it comes out that he admits that he was raised with a step father that was a Muslim and his mother either attended? or practiced? that faith. As a small child I believe he was also instructed in the Muslim faith. This desire he has to so quickly implement all ‘his’ programs is frightening. It appears he plans to do this within the first year of his administration. I just wonder what he has up his sleeve for the last 3 years. God help us if we have him for more than that. I’m 62 and terrified of government handling of healthcare. I worked at the job I am now retired from for excellent benefits but my salary was about 25% less than it might have been had I worked somewhere else. I believed my benefit package to be worth that much. I wanted the ability to have excellent healthcare all my life. As of this date I’ve never had to choose an HMO. I worked part-time in the health care field to support myself and my two children. I’ve seen what an HMO or a “Government” health care program can do or better yet will not do for its clients. Every person in America should have access to health care but I believe it can be achieved without the programs that I’m afraid are going to be forced on us. All of us that believe in Prayer should be on our knees & those of us who have never worked in an election before should work to make sure the 2010 elections turn the House and Senate back to conservative leadership.
President Barack Obama was left with so many serious problems that need immediate solutions by George W. Bush that I’m surprised he’s done as well as he has in his first 6 months in office. Let’s not forget that George W. Bush more than doubled the federal debt from 4 Trillion Dollars to 10.5 Trillion Dollars in a mere 8 years. And, much of this money (which was borrowed from other countries) was used in perpetrating the single greatest blunder ever committed by an American President, i.e., Bush’s pursuit of a war of choice in Iraq. The neocons in Bush’s Administration created blunder upon blunder that I’ve wondered whether anyone will be able to right the ship of state now that they’ve brought it to the brink of destruction. Parenthetically, the last thing this country needs is to put a bunch of ignorant conservatives back in power so they can finish destroying our country. Instead, we need to get as many Republicans out of Congress in 2010 as possible so that we can proceed with the rebuilding of our country.

@Caliguy55
For perspective, BHO has added another trillion in only 6 months. He’s makes Bush look like a tightwad.
For the reality check, congress kept giving the money for Bush to spend. All the dems had to do under Bush was vote “no” to the repeated requests for more war dollars, but they couldn’t bring themselves to do it. They facilitated the blunder and are more culpable for the deficit than is Bush or BHO.
@Caliguy55
Actually that’s not entirely true. The deficit when Bush left office was roughly 400 Billion, I have no idea where you are getting 8 trillion, unless you are talking about the budget, not the debt. If you are talking about the budget, he increased it by 7 BILLION, not trillion. Bush also created record numbers of dollars paid into the federal government, by cutting taxes and giving incentives to business to grow and make more money, therefore paying more money out. You could maybe argue that Bush gets some credit for the TARP and bailouts from Oct to Jan, but it would end there, and the primary debt would still be in Obama’s court thanks to his huge stimulus bill. He has quadrupled what Bush did. Absolutely right to the person who said he makes Bush seem like a miser. for a picture of the deficit and who is responsible for what, http://blog.heritage.org/2009/03/24/bush-deficit-vs-obama-deficit-in-pictures/
Hopefully people will wake up. i am afraid that so many people like this person just don’t know the facts and changes them to suit their preconceived hatred for Bush, most based on common beliefs that just aren’t true.
@Kevin
You are right. Technically by the consitution, congress is 100% responsible for deficits. They control the purse strings, and no president can spend a dime without them approving of it. And Obama was part of congress, so if you want to get technical, who is to blame for the deficit? Obama and congress, 100%.
This is copy of an email I sent to Richard Leiby at the Washington Post.
Dick, It’s not often that I write to you or your newspaper but this is one of those times. On Independence Day I am taking the liberty which our nation fought so valiantly to preserve. Managed Townhall Meetings at the WH and catered soirees hosted by the publisher at The Washington Post eliminates all links of credibility especially as the Internet is your proofreader. The news is not a joke but Robert Gibbs uses WH press conferences as though it’s his version of SNL. Laughing and answering questions with a condescending manner is the mark of a lousy journalist and Anita Dunn as the Director of WH communication is responsible for lack of respectful dialogue coming out of the White House press office. The joke may be on you and your newspaper publisher for not calling for Obama’s Birth Certificate and proof of his eligibility to serve as President of the United States.
I believe one of the reasons BHO’s poll numbers are down is it is impossible to poll the dead who voted for him under ACORNS voter registration drive.

14. Appointed a Homeland Security Chief who quickly identified as

Stay tuned as I’m sure there’s more to come …. sadly!!!!
The thug needs to remove himself from office, just as he removed the president of GM!!!! He needs to get out by the window that he couldn’t get in to the white house ….. oh that was so funny and so telling!!!!
1229 more days to go… God help us all!
Okay, I’m game. I do not know the best solution to the mess Bush left. I do not know that Obama has pursued the best plan. However, when we criticize, we must have an alternative in mind. I would like to know what alternative you all are measuring his performance against. I have not heard any viable solutions from the GOP, or any of you for that matter. When we say Obama has done poorly, then, compared to what?? I have written to my representatives more in the last 6 months than in 6 years, but I see no real, workable plans coming out of the opposition.
Jamie has it ever occurred to you that government has no solutions? We solve our own problems here in the good old US of A. Get a job, work hard and if the government wasn’t always in your pocket you could decide how to spend your own money …health care or cigarettes, it’s your choice that’s what has made us great, we choose our own destiny. Or at least we used to….
Obama lied, people died. He sucks. He is the worst president I have seen in my 50 years………and it is incredibly difficult to be worse than Jimmy Carter.
“Looking at it closely this should not be surprising with lots of crises all requiring attention and solutions all at once and an opposition ready to stir up criticism and fear about the unknown…”
With comments like this, I wonder why Zogby doesn’t declare himself partial. He goes on to state he’s amazed any President could do so well. If McCain had been elected, and everthing else was exactly the same, would he say McCain is doing remarkable and it’s all the complainer’s faults?? Really?
Didn’t the old PI used to say, “Just the facts, ma’am.” Keep the partisan feelings out of neutral reporting.
He could go a long way to to fix thing if he only did one thing, apply his knowledge of the constitution towards the problem of lobbyists in the halls of power.the following letter was send to Mr.Obama and his Attorney General. Neither one of them had the courtesy to even reply “Thank you for writing.” Read On…
March 9th 2009
As a natural person, I enjoy politics as much as I hate its ugly side. Recently you issued a warning to the special interest groups, the lobbyist. I, like you, find that the governed are being trampled by corporations who over reach their limits when they claim the “right to redress a grievance” or that they too should enjoy the same “equal protection under the law” as a natural person is afforded under the constitution.
The way it stands now corporate lobbyists help draft laws and in some cases even write them, like Enron Corp did. But most of the time they just wine, dine and interfere with grass roots movements and use the freedom afforded to spread huge amounts of corporate cash to influence the very law makers that must serve the people.
The big question is how did we get into such a mess with these lobbyists? It’s the lobbyists who have made a mess of the American economy. They help draft the very regulations that drove the banks into the ground, and ran interference when it came to oversight. The really big question to ask, are corporations endowed with the same inalienable rights as a natural person under the constitution?
The history as how we got into this mess is real easy to understand thanks to our favorite tool, the internet.
It all started with a small tax dispute case, Santa Clara County V Southern Pacific Railroad. and a little bit of court shenanigan by a court clerk named Bancroft Davis
Who had his own agenda, because he had served as president to the board of directors for The Newburg & New York Railroad Co. What in blazes he was doing there as a court clerk to begin with is unknown.
Anyway, in the preamble to the case, Chief Justice Morrison Waite said “We can all agree that equal protection under the law applies to these corporations as well.” After the case was decided, the foot notes were put together by none other than a railroad man who took it upon himself to include the equal protection under the law quote from the preamble as part of the summary judgment handed down. Its all the more amazing considering that the case wasn’t about equal protection at all. In fact the court skirted the issue altogether.
With that small act Mr. Davis, opened a gargantuan can of worms that spawns the corruption of government officials and all forms of sordid affairs too numerous to mention.
The immutable facts are …corporations exist and do business by the good will of the state. A corporation cannot exist without the consent and authority of the state. They can’t hold elective office, they can’t be sworn as citizens, nor can they be arrested. And most importantly they don’t enjoy the right to vote.
If they can’t be sworn in, hold office, be arrested and can’t vote, tell us how did they get the right to petition the government to redress a grievance?
As we saw, in the1886 case, they used the actions of a corporate tycoon disguised as a court clerk to attain the rights of a natural person for themselves. Because of that man’s action, democracy and the power of the people was unbalanced towards the corporations. Yet all they done so far is create war and interfere in the affairs of day to day governance thru the use of lobbyists. A single corporation can hire 25 or 50 lobbyists. That is 25 to 50 times more power than any single voter will ever have.
The problem today is that lobbyists are embedded in both houses to such a degree as to make any move against the lobbyist industry nearly, if not impossible. Why even the lobbyist industry has a group to lobby for them, their job is to make sure nothing ‘bad’ happens to the sweet scam they have going.
The solution to the governmental interference by the lobbyists industry resides within the power of your office. An elegant solution presents itself, and you may have thought of it already.
Use the office of legal council to get a legal opinion denying the corporations the right to lobby the government. The reasons to deny corporations the right to petition are, they can’t be sworn in, hold office, be arrested, can’t vote and most important the rights they afforded to themselves are derived from a non existing SCOTUS ruling.
This one act by your office will bring the greatest, fastest and longest lasting change in Washington politics America will ever see. Use the office of legal council, get a reasonable opinion, and deny corporations the right to petition the government to redress a grievance the same way a natural person does. Let the courts pick up the pieces.
If nothing is done to curb the power of corporate lobbyist and the meddling they do, the future of this country to govern itself without undue influence in its internal affairs hangs in the balance. I would go as far as to say that, the whole preamble to the constitution is in peril. Will your office do what is best for the country?
Will your office fire the first salvo onto the deck of the “USS SWEET DEAL?”
Please remember, “Corporate personhood is the legal fiction that property is a person.”
Respectfully I conclude with, “This is my one petition to redress this grievance.”
Thoughtfully

This president has shredded the constitution he swore to uphold, has shredded our national security through military cutbacks (especially our DEFENSIVE MISSILE SHIELD) has eliminated the rule of law by protecting all of his supporters while attacking those who oppose him, has brought complete disarray to the stock market and robbed all those who had invested for their retirement. He is very efficient at destroying our country and telling the world how bad we are as a country. He is now on the verge of begining to make us all pay for everything by placing a cap and trade tax on every person in the US to fight a non existent global warming and then saddle us all with government controlled healthcare. If he pulls this all off, he will truly destroy the country perhaps beyond repair. He has no constitutional power to do any of these things but has been allowed to get away with it all without firing a shot. I weep for our country and pray that he will not succeed in turning our country into a socialist country and himself into a dictator. We have finally got the government that the brainwashed citizens deserve. I predict that he will push for the repeal of the 22nd ammendment so that he can declare hiself king of the USA for his lifetime. With a little help from ACORN he should be able to rig any future elections and with both the house and senate in DFL control, there will be no opposition. The press will continue to bow down and worship our magnificent leader and maybe have a thrill or two run up their leg! Our currency will be devalued and our country will fall from within.
Pres Obama position on civil liberties scares me. Especially his Attorney General’s position on second amendment rights. I fear that gun ownership will have severe restrictions put in place. Also it would seem that the prez wants the health records of all Americans available to the Federal Government as a matter of course. Privacy for our citizens does not seem important to this adminstration. “Big Brother” syndrome seems to be the course of this President. When looking at the choices the two parties put forth for the American people to choose from, for our government leaders, it is a sad commentary that these people are all we have. We need to get away from this two party mentality. From my point of view, Libertarianism seems a likely alternative to the ‘ho-hum’ candidates put forth by the other two. If a major change is not forthcomming soon…, America will become a third world country within the next decade. Our crushing debt will be our undoing. As it stands, with the big two…, we have a choice between ‘tax & spend liberals’ or ‘borrow & spend conservatives’. We need to learn to ‘PAY AS WE GO’. And who holds a majority of our debt?!? China…, a country who’s government has NOT demonstrated that it has our best intrests at heart. Come on America…, WAKE UP, before we really skid down that slippery slope we are now on, and truly find ourselves beyond any true recovery. Our grandchildern and perhaps great grandchildren will be psying for our follies

Obama has to be the worst President ever. He is an embarassment when he goes overseas and continually appologizes for America. He is trying to ram through a socialist agenda before the public realizes their mistake in electing him and changes the congressional make up in 2010. A very dangerous individual. Hopefully we will survive his agenda. Wake up America we are being put in debt at a level from which we cannot recover. Our national security is being dismantled.
I didn’t realize I was clicking into an ultra-rightwing apologist forum.
To the person who is still ignoring the publication of Obamaa’s birth certificate: Try reading the information on Snopes.
To those castigating the spending: Where were you for the Reagan-Bush-Bush years? Apparently their freespending ways is somehow different? Besides, Bush 2 managed to spend the entire Clinton surplus and put the US into the worst deficit of all time, mostly spent on an illegal war based on lies.
I’m disappointed with Obama because he’s being too cautious. To get out of the massive Bush hole, you’d have to bring out heavy equipment. Part of that equipment would be prosecution of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and just about everybody else who ever stepped foot in Bush’s oval office.
Let’s see how bad off we are in a year, folks. Either you’ll be proved right (doubtful), or the Bush mess will start to be swept away. Oh, and if you’re out of a job? Blame Bush, not Obama.
