Promises to Keep
President Barack Obama’s message of “change” was a constant theme throughout his campaign, and after five months in office most Americans believe he is acting on the change he promised.
A recent Zogby Interactive survey finds most likely voters (61%) agree that the President’s campaign message of “change” has matched his actions in office, although more than a third (36%) disagree. More than 80% of Democrats (81%) and those who cast a vote for Obama in November’s election (84%) agree he is acting on the change he promised. A majority of independent voters (56%) feel the same. Interestingly, many Republicans (43%) and even 36% of those who voted for McCain also believe Obama has put his promises of change into action – though they may not agree with the shape that change is taking.
Some of Obama’s strongest support came from young voters, and nearly two-thirds of likely voters younger than 30 (62%) believe Obama’s message of change has matched his actions in office – with those age 18-24 particularly confident the President is making good on this campaign promise (70%). A majority of these under-30 voters in nearly all demographics we measure agree Obama is taking action on his promise of change – with a few exceptions such as young Republicans (45%), conservatives (42%), those who voted for McCain (40%), although there is still significant agreement among these groups.
But among voters over-30, slightly more than one in four don’t believe Obama’s campaign promises of change have matched his actions in office at all – compared with 18% of those younger than 30 and just 5% of 18-24 year olds who feel the same. Nearly half of McCain voters (48%), as well as 43% of Republicans, and 46% of conservatives also feel strongly that a significant disconnect exists between Obama’s campaign promises and his recent actions.
Has Obama kept his campaign promise of “change” so far? If so, are you satisfied with the kind of changes he has brought to the presidency?

Mr. Obama lost my spport and my respect when he left all of bush’s laywers in their post. When he left all of those right wingers in place to interfere. The fact that he co-supports the secrecy policy, makes me unable to support him in anyway anymore.
He’s followed through on some of his promises and apparently flaty lied about some of them — transparency, Iraq, government secrects, Gitmo, etc.
I am completely dissatisfied with the changes he has made. He thinks he has all the answers but he knows nothing. The idea that he and his party labeled Bush “arrogant” is laughable. Bush is Captain Humility compared to Obama.
Obama is a walking disaster for anyone who wants to work, prosper, and have the freedom to make choices. What type of car to drive, my doctor. Spreading the wealth s*cks. He can keep this type of change.
Unless Obama has some deep Machiavellian strategy in mind, I find his handling of secrecy, Gitmo, and the torture memos disappointing. I frankly expected better of a constitutional scholar. He has fulfilled or is working toward some of his promises including some of the big ones, but he seems to be soft peddling some of the most needed reforms. The appearance to me is that the strength and leadership exhibited during the campaign has faded on entry to the Oval Office.
Most people bring their old job (methods, ways of thinking etc.) to the new job. Obama, a community organizer, now wants to “reorganize” the whole county! That scares people. We see that he is meeting resistance, especially on health care, and as his term goes on he will find it more difficult to “sell” his plans to the American people. By the time the mid-term election nears some Democrats will abandon his most radical efforts to change this country. That’s why he is moving with great speed.
Obama won – America lost!!!!
That’s what happened to this country. We are no longer in America! We are … and headed toward a severe socialist/commie state! Those that have lived under those conditions befreo can recognize the signs and are fearful of them. And those that are dreamy eyed over this thug have no idea what’s about to happen to their country! One day they will wake up and won’t recongoze their own city!!!!
Wake up, you people!!!! Or, maybe you’re all socialist and commies!!! Then, I do NOT wish you well. I wish you hell! Anyone with an eve small brain in their skull should be able to figure out what this megalomaniac is up to. He already has done some terrible and irreversible damage to our land. If let alone to carry out his plans further, we’re DOOMED!!!!!
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!
Nothing substantial will change because both major parties are owned by the same people. Nothing will stop the flow of real assets from the working class to our owners.
Obama could have had the best of intentions but it only takes a few whispered words . . . “do you want for your children to be in a bunker when WW3 starts?”
Mr. Obama was put in his place on Nov 10th 2008. Read the clip…
“The motorcade encountered crowds of people gathered outside the White House as it made its way off campus and headed toward Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
After arriving, President-elect Obama went into a previously unannounced “private” meeting at the airport’s Fire Station 301.
We’re not being told who it’s with but it will last about an hour. Podesta was not in the meeting, or at least did not stay around in the meeting,
because he was spotted walking the other direction down the tarmac a few minutes after we arrived.” Nov 10th 2008 UPI
