New Zogby survey shows positive numbers for Obama

The latest Zogby Interactive poll shows President Barack Obama’s standing with likely voters is largely unchanged from a month ago.

Obama’s positive job performance numbers are at 51%, down a point from mid-April. His favorability rating is now at 55%, which is one point below the result from the last time Zogby Interactive asked this question on March 20-23. In the current survey, 70% of Republicans rated Obama very unfavorably.

Job performance is calculated by asking respondents to rate Obama’s job performance as excellent, good, fair, or poor. The “excellent” and “good” responses are then combined to form the “positive” category. Favorability is calculated by asking respondents whether their overall opinion of Obama is very favorable, somewhat favorable, somewhat unfavorable, or very unfavorable. The “very favorable” and “somewhat favorable” responses are then combined to produce an overall “favorable” category.

In his weekly column at Forbes.com , John Zogby looks at those results and concludes that Obama should go ahead with plans to pass health care reform before Congress breaks for its August recess. He writes: “As our latest Zogby Interactive poll shows, Obama remains popular but not so much that he can assume unlimited public patience for solving the nation’s problems.” He closes by saying: “The political risks surrounding health care aren’t going away, and future events could reduce Obama’s popularity. That’s why now is the time to act.”
Is Zogby correct in saying that Obama should take on health care reform sooner rather than later? Is there a risk that his popularity is at a high point, and may fall further on into his term?

Nationalized healthcare would be a disaster. I am a Medical Technologist in a hospital laboratory in a large healthcare system, and if Comrade Obama tries to get such a program passed, then I will consider it a declaration of war by him on my profession and my livelihood.

LOL. If you think health care is expensive now …. just wait till it’s free!!!!!

First of all, socialism is failing all around the world so why do the uneducated feel that it will work here in America? DUH!
Second, how many of you have actually experienced socialized medicine in your lives and health?
The lousy new gestapo we have that invaded the white house can’t even keep super secret documents off the internet let alone how to keep YOUR private files off the internet. But would be least of our problems. We truly have a very uninformed class of people(thanks to public schools, which are also socialists) now in the USA and that’s who the socialized government is relying on to drink more kool-aide so they can have them suckered into anything they want to do with them. So the cockroaches are going to be in charge and ”Soylent Green”, the movie, will the rule of the day! LOL.

I challenge Anti-Socialist to find someone who lives in Canada or Western Europe who would want to swap their national health care for our system.

If YOU want health care “reform”, yes. Is that you bias showing through? No time is good if you are concerned about a degraded health care system. Barack himself expressed concern over deficits. A new program would raise massive amounts of debt and further weaken the economy. A government that can’t keep from loosing and/or leaking secret information can’t be trusted not to politically misuse personal medical records.

All we need is another bill that gets shoved through Congress that noone has read and finalized behind closed doors.

“We can’t afford to do nothing”, may be good politics but in my opinion is a blatant lie. Send Congress home for the summer and we will be better for it.

Slothrop, you mut be young. As you can tell by PaulAckerman and many other people who have complained on call-in shows about the healthcare that obama proposes. In my travels across the northern border into Canada, I have had MANY Canadians tell me that it will be a disaster if we go to socialized medicine. Those that are capable enough travel to the US for treatment. The wealthy in Canada purchase US insurance for that purpose.

Lets see…how to pay for universal health care? How about eliminationg one super secret program especially one that is known only by a project #. Is universal health care provided by tax payer a socialist program? You bet. but so is 911 service and medicaid, and so is the fabled Social security number. Or as I call it the peoples security number. Social security number or peoples security number which one is better for you? They mean the same thing, except one word makes the same program sound nefarious, communistic if you will. As for Mr. Obama he lost my support 2 months ago.

The G.O.P. continues with it’s unbridled hypocrisy in crying that a public payer option in any health care reform plan would constitute unfair competition for private insurers. This is surprising given that I’ve heard nothing but chants of unregulated competition from Republicans for as long as I can remember, if it benefited them and their supporters (not the country). Well, a public payer option is essential, if we’re going to force private insurers to cut their enormous profits in favor of affordable health care. Congress must include a public payer option in any health care reform bill or it will not be REFORM.

How about a little truth? George W. Bush during his reign increased the federal debt from 4 Trillion Dollars to 10.5 Trillion Dollars. Decreasing taxes and borrowing money to start and fight two wars has just about destroyed this country. At least with President Barack Obama’s plans, the money being borrowed by the government is being spent for infrastructure repair, etc., right here in the good ole U.S.A. I don’t think any of us will live to see the day, when a Republican can tell the truth.

For many, many months now I have not received any surveys of any significance other than junk. I get the feels that they know just about how people are going to answer their surveys and depending on what type of outcome they want determines who they send the survey.
I’ve never been asked how I feel about the thug in the white and I bet that I never will be asked. I feel that Zogby is an obama man but then I’ve never been asked that question either on a survey. LOL.

    Slothrop :
I challenge Anti-Socialist to find someone who lives in Canada or Western Europe who would want to swap their national health care for our system.

I have a friend who’s lower arm was removed for cancer because she wasn’t treated early enough. She finally came here to see what went wrong and was told the truth. She had to have further treatment for the remaining arm so she could at least keep what she had left.

A friend in Windsor finally had to come here to have heart surgery and medical treatment because he was not able to wait out the Canadian health care. Although the wait he did have to endure in Canada did quite a bit of damage to his heart muscles but he WAS able to get surgery and is feeling much better. Those are just two. They would love to have our med care. But if this juek in th white house has his way we’ll end up just like the rest of the socialists.

MAny of the countries in europe that are straooped with this piece of excrement type health care put a limit on how much a docor/dentist can work and earn. That’s how the gov. keeps them under their thumb. And when those doctors earn enough for the week, they can’t perfom any more procedures, thus leaving patients rotting in the waiting rooms. But you might be able to ”tip” them under the table a hefty tip to help you out. And it has to be a hefty tip because people are tipping and the heaviest tipper gets the medical care!!!!!! Free health care??? YEAH!!!!!
I asked one the morons in this country how much does he think a doctor should be able to make in the USA (because he thought doctors make too much money – envy ?) …. he said ……$70,000 a year!!!!! I asked him if he would trust his little family jewls to a guy with a scalpel pointing at HIS LITTLE FAMILY JEWELS that only makes $70,000 a year? either answer points to him being an idiot and I don’t want to be on his team.

You didn’t ask but I was born and lived in socialism and communism so I experienced the love of those regimes. As a matter of fact there was so much love and care that I just couldn’t take it any more and left. (escaped to be more clear) spent many years in refugee camps and finally made my way over here – LEGALLY. What a concept eh? Just thought you might want to know. So, yes, I know a bit about socialized medicine…. very personally.

I don’t know what sort of delusional herbs these people are taking. Maybe it’s something in the water. Some how people get the impression that we are not under a communistic system. It happened so slowly that even the people who took away your rights to own property didn’t know what they were doing. Some time in the mid 20’s all counties started collecting property taxes, in the 1800’s such a thing would have overthrown the local government. The way it is now no one can afford to retire in peace. Property taxes will force you to choose between medicine and your roof or even sell you’re your home to move into a nursing home. The mere fact that property taxes are a perpetual tax, a kingly tax means that the property you bought is never free and clear, It means that if you don’t pay your taxes the county that you so dearly love will send the sheriff to evict you and sell your roof the irony is that those who enforce those property tax laws will themselves be forced to move or be evicted. So you see we own nothing in Today’s America there is no such thing as private property the county owns everything. And you are afraid of a little socialism?
