John Zogby invites you to be part of the The Way We’ll Be
Following the publication of The Way We’ll Be: The Zogby Report on the Transformation of the American Dream last summer, I’ve been traveling nonstop around the country, seeing and hearing enthusiasm all across the U.S. about the themes in the book – living with less as consumers and citizens, embracing diversity of views and ways of life, looking inward to find spiritual comfort and demanding authenticity from the media, our leaders, and leading institutions.
I’m very excited about this blog because just like the work we already do here at Zogby International, it’s going to welcome ideas and follow trends that are always ahead of the curve. We will continue to uncover and welcome what others don’t see. In this world of market research, we’re now into our 25th year and we’ve become both pioneers and mavericks — and we love that role. We also pride ourselves on being fearless and provocative.
As we embark on this latest endeavor, we will embrace the provocative and as always we will share data and opinions with you. We welcome your input – whether you want to comment on our latest posts, suggest topics for future surveys or even submit a blog post of your own. The blog will also feature excerpts from some of the best opinion leaders in the country about politics, what people are buying, how we live our lives and peering in on how our neighbors live their lives. Join us as together we discover The Way We’ll Be. – John Zogby

The most recent survey asked if I was planning to live abroad. In addition to that possibility I am considering leaving North Carolina because of very bad one party management. I have been looking at Tennessee.
@Cornelia Cree
How has the recent election of Sen. Larry Shaw of Fayetteville to the chairmanship of the Council on American-Islamic Relations CAIR influenced your decision ?

Mr. Zogby (or whoever is in charge of this blog and/or website),
Could you make going onto this blog, and into the individual topics easier? Could you put these in this left side column with the title of the topic and number of comments (or date of the last comment)…so that we can just click on the topic title and move around that way? It’s really time consuming this way.
Maybe you have this easier system set up somewhere else that I don’t know about.
thanks.
Despite repeated requests to be taken OFF your stupid mailing list, I keep recieving e-mails, why is that?
@Cornelia Cree
If you are a liberal….do not come to TN….We do not believe in handouts, and cannot by law overspend each year in our state budget.
We will be getting a new Governor next election, and so we are hoping that the Republican party will continue to remain in charge…
Just some food for thought.
It would be nice in the polls if there was a “comment” section for some of the questions. Not all answers are either Yes or No. Some need a bit of explination. 100-150 characters would be fine but I suppose that would make tallying the responses more difficult. There could be a “Yes, but” or “No, but” along with just yes or no.
Just a thought.
If I have to hear any more about diversity and multiculturalism I think I’m going to barf. We all know that in academia there is no diversity of thought, only diversity in terms of race, sexual orientation, and place of origin: Black and browns are wonderful, white’s suck; homosexuality and transgenderism are divinely inspired, while heteroism is unnatural; and immigrants, especially the illegal ones have an absolute right to the fruits of another’s labor.
I would like to see an ongoing series of polls on public awareness and concern about constitutional compliance, to show trends in them. For example, you might ask:
How compliant are federal officials with the U.S. Constiution?
A. In perfect compliance.
B. Mostly in compliance but with occasional violations.
C. In substantial violation of important parts of the Constitution.
D. Bent on overthrowing the Constitution and becoming a tyranny.
How important do you think strict compliance to be?
A. More important than any matter of policy.
B. Somewhat important but not as important as keeping everyone prosperous.
C. Not very important.
D. The Constitution should be scrapped.
I could go on but that can get things going.
Dennis #7 is absolutely correct! And Polls & Survey’s from ANY source are totally useless! We Americans express our opinions, wishes, desires & our “Representative” Gov. ignores us, the Conmstitution, & proceeds to do exactly as the Media & Lobbyists’ command them!In the interest of PC they’ll bend over backwards to accommodate a foreigner’s cultural demands & blythly disregard legal & natural born citizen’s opinions.
The America I grew up in is GONE……….
I don’t think polls are useless and I do think our elected leaders are paying attention and I think they also are reading the BLOGS.
Are they responsive? No they aren’t when they feel they are in a “safe” seat. But if we had polls that could put the fear of God into them–or a least the fear of the voter–they would see and understand that. If they know we’re ready to throw them out if they don’t start representing US instead of just the lobbyists and big donors, they’ll clean up their act. At least enough so we’ll vote for them again.
It’s too bad that politicians misuse polling data. Rather than seeing the data as a basis for collective public opinion, it seems politicians are only interested in “fine tuning” their message so they essentially can tell us what we want to hear. The media repeats the targeted message without question or analysis and then the pols go and do as they please, ignoring laws and even the Constitution! A case in point is the ridiculous idea that the federal deficit can be “cut in half” during Mr. Obama’s first term while at the same time spending at the federal level nearly doubles. The media dutifully report the finely-tuned message about cutting the deficit and apparently many Americans believe it — to the point that few question the huge increases in spending.

also comment to cornelia:
TN is deep in the bible belt. The state is full of bible thumpers, gun-toting rednecks (who want to take their guns to bars and parks), and religious hypocrites who only drink behind closed doors. If that’s your cup of tea, come on down.
Check out the best idea yet: transition towns: http://www.transitiontowns.org/TransitionNetwork/TransitionNetwork
These folks have really thought out how people work together to create local economies that are not separatist, but resilient.
@Dennis
You’re right on the mark with this comment.
@Dennis
Are you getting the information that forms your opinion from a number of sources (other than one) ? I am not trying to be flippant or to minimize your opinion at all, but I am curious as to the input for your point of view… especially because if you are right, we are indeed in very sad state of affairs in academia.
Zogby administrator:
Maybe adding the time and date to each comment would facilitate timely discussion.
It is my present opinion that the recent economic meltdown shows a fundemental vulnerability in our “capitalism on steroids” culture. We had best hope that major changes do occur. If we continue our “growth and prosperity at all costs” mentality, the fall will be all that much harder next time. We are just one catastrophic stocastic perturbation away from cultural chaos or we could just fragment from the proverbial “death from a thousand cuts”. We have been living in a fool’s paradise and I think many have sensed it for years. Our culture is not healthy and we do not lead the world in wisdom and relevance. We suffer from a unique combination of misplaced euphoric optimism and blind arrogance. However, I don’t think even this very serious financial crisis has awakened the masses to what is really at stake here. And I don’t that our way of life should be unassailable. We need to learn that happiness is not based upon more or everything at the expense of all other sentient beings and other humanity in other parts of the world. One would like to be optimistic about our ability for profound change, but unfortunately, I am now sure we have the collective will for the depth of change that will be necessary. I hope I am wrong. What we need is a good cultural enema and some serious introspective time in front of the mirror.
@Dennis
I could not have said it better myself.
I’m shocked. I thought somehow the tone of conversations would be different here. I guess I forgot for a moment that we all fall under the bell curve somewhere. That means there are just as many pig-headed folks out there who do not understand economics and history as there are educated ones who have a real grasp of more than one idea at a time.
By the way, Mr. Zogby, I am quite impressed and fascinated by your book. I’m re-reading it to try to get every nugget of info. Thanks for all your work.
Dear Mr. Zogby,
The beginning of your entry is confusing and not logical. Your entry is dated February 12, 2009, and you begin:
“Following the publication of The Way We’ll Be: The Zogby Report on the Transformation of the American Dream this summer, I’ve been traveling nonstop around the country….”
It is April 29, 2009 as I write this complaint, even now not yet summer 2009. Did you mean summer 2008? And how could it have been summer when you dated the entry February 12, 2009?
Your entry does not make time sense, and this makes me trust the whole thing less. Don’t you have anyone to proofread or edit your entries to make sure they make sense? If I’m missing something, tell me. To my button-down mind, it does not make sense!

Hello Dennis:
I could not improve on this one at all. Thank you, Thank you!
@Jon Roland
Jon:
Zobgy should hire you this minute! Very good questions too.
Dennis:
I like your post. You called it like it is! I don’t think Zobgy expected these kinds of indep. thoughts.
In WV-Governor, R Byrd, Rocky all went for Obama-of course. Mr. Wind-bag (Biden) told the truth for once, They (Obama’s Gang) is going to kill the coal industry-and they are hard at it too. WV did not listen and voted for this man! So now our Governor is between and rock and a hard place (real life). Thank GOD, we know how to plant/hunt etc. and take care of ourselves.
Please don’t come to WV if you are illegal= WE can not afford it either!
It is most interesting that liberals feel a need to assail conservatives for speaking their minds, yet they have no problem expressing themselves openly and without challenge. They insult and misrepresent conservative talk radio, which is highly successful, but when Air America tried to compete in the open market they couldn’t pay their bills. If you really oppose people insulting one another, where is your outrage with Bill Maher?
You also seem to object to Christians speaking their minds on this blog, but where do you get your authority when you consider the first amendment to the Constitution. Like you always tell others when they object to content, you don’t have to read or post.
It is a bully mentality that thinks it can set the agenda. I for one an tired of it. I will not SHUT UP.
